So what’s the difference? What is Spirit-Led recovery, and what makes it different from the normal recovery groups and methods that you see around? Spirit-Led recovery allows the Holy Spirit to lead and guide you through your addiction recovery process with God's word and power through personal counseling, inner healing, education, and day to day interaction with Him. Most recovery methods incorporate a set of rules and guidelines that the addicted person is encouraged to follow and hopefully recovery by. With Spirit-Led recovery, you surrender your will and problem completely and unconditionally to His leadership and allow Him to fix you from the inside out, rather than from the outside in. When you are truly healed from the pain and fear that has been driving your addiction, you can then let go of the pain relievers that you have been using to treat it.

We live in a time where God has been shaking all that can be shaken and He has led many of His people into a time of personal wilderness where He heals and purifies them from all that has been hindering their walk with Him. Addiction has not only been an epidemic in the world, but also in the Body of Christ. Christians just don't talk about their problems as much because they are afraid of being judged and rejected by other Christians, or by the world. In this process of shaking, God raises His hand of grace and protection up just enough so that all the past unhealed pain, sin problems, and character flaws will come to the surface full strength and be exposed. To the point where we will be forced to face them and to let Him help us with them. This is a time where the Bride is being helped to make herself ready for Jesus Christ’s soon return to the earth.

The following pages will give you practical, frank, and honest help in overcoming your specific addiction problems, and it will help you to finally stop the cycle of quitting and then relapsing again, and from running to one addiction after another. The following teachings and lessons came from the daily instruction of the Holy Spirit and they can help you to recover even when nothing else has worked for you in the past. I know so well the pain, sorrow, fear, discouragement, and disappointment that comes from trying everything the world has to offer to recover from addiction, but yet still being trapped in addiction and continually relapsing. I also know that when you truly come to the end of yourself, God is waiting there to help you. This book was written for Christians and non-Christians alike, and the principles taught herein can help anyone who truly wants to get free, and live free from addiction. What has been impossible for you is possible with God’s help.

LK 18:27 Jesus replied, "What is impossible with men is possible with God."

First things first

If you are going to receive the help that you need to get free from your addiction problem, then you must first have a relationship with the One person who can help you, namely Jesus Christ. You may have tried many things in the past to get free from your addiction problem and found out in the end that it just wasn’t enough to do the job, so you quickly ran back to your old addiction. Your Creator has been calling out to you to start a true and genuine relationship with Him so that He can interact with you on a daily basis and give you the help that you really need to recover. It will not do you any good to sit and type on your keyboard to communicate with someone in an email if you have no connection to the Internet, so you have to get connected to communicate. Our connection with God is broken when we break His laws and God calls this sin. Since we have no way of paying for this sin God came to the earth in the form of a God/man named Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ was nailed to a cross to take our punishment for our sins so that we could be reconnected with God again. It doesn’t matter what has happened in your life so far or what bad things you have seen done in the name of God, He wants to have a relationship with you and offers that relationship to you because of what Jesus did. The only answer to addiction recovery comes through the power of Jesus Christ and you can waste your whole life looking in the wrong places and not find freedom. Today is your day to become reconnected, and to not only get free from your addiction, but to know the loving God who created you and died on the cross for you.

JN 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.

What does being saved mean? I used to hear Christians say that word "saved" before I became a Christian, and all I could think of was "Saved from what?" Well, after I got saved, I figured that out. You see, when Adam and Even sinned and broke God's commandment not to eat the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, we became disconnected from God (a little bit like unplugging the signal you use to be connected to the Internet, or with your phone). Since mankind could not pay for their wrongs, or sins, God sent His only Son Jesus Christ to the Earth to live in a human body and pay the price for our wrongs by being nailed to a tree in our place. So, God had made a way for us to be reconnected to Him through Jesus His Son by allowing Him to pay for all of our crimes (sin). All you have to do is admit to Him that you are a sinner (wrongdoer), accept Jesus sacrifice on the cross to pay for your sins in your place, and believe that He has saved you. You are then instantly reconnected to God, and saved from hell, and the eternal judgment you would have received for having to face God with all your sins unpaid for. Good people can go to Hell too; it is only through the blood of Jesus Christ that our sins are washed away. If you have broken even one of God's commandments then you have sinned, and you can't get into Heaven with even one sin, you must accept the sacrifice of Jesus to be saved.

Here is a prayer to pray to help you.

"God, I admit to you right now that I am a sinner, and I ask that you would come into my heart right now and forgive me of all my sins. I accept the sacrifice of your Son Jesus upon the cross as payment for my sins and I thank you for saving me this day from hell and eternal separation from you. Jesus I ask that you would be Lord of my life, and I surrender every area of my heart and life to you this day. I also ask God that you would baptize me with your Holy Spirit. In Jesus name I pray and give thanks, amen".

Now to those who are already saved, but who may not have received the baptism of the Holy Spirit:

The leadership and direction of the Holy Spirit are critical in your efforts to get free from addiction, because you will need His constant help to understand what is going on inside you from the heart level. He knows every painful thing that has happened to you in your life that has scarred and wounded your heart, and He alone knows what really makes you tick, so He alone knows how to fix you. You don't take your car to get fixed at a bicycle shop; you take it to a mechanic that knows how to fix it according to the manufacturers specifications for that product. Without His help to get free from addiction, you can stay stuck in a cycle of relapse for years, or worse, with many addictions, you can die. You must have the Holy Spirit's help to get free, and to stay truly free from addiction for life.

Before and after we get saved, it is the Holy Spirit that is with us, to help us to receive Jesus Christ as our savior and become reconnected to God. There is nobody that gets saved by accident or by some self-realization that God exists and wants them to be saved. It is a work done by the Spirit of God, plain and simple (If you are not saved, then you can go to the bottom of this teaching, and it will show you how to be saved). But Jesus spoke of a time when the Holy Spirit would come and dwell in, and not just with all who ask Him to be baptized with His great power and fire. You see, there is a difference between having the Holy Spirit with you, and in you, and you must ask God for the baptism of the Holy Spirit, it is a separate work from salvation;

JN 14:15-17 "If you love me, you will obey what I command. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever-- 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you".

JN 20:22 And with that he breathed on them and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit".

God knew that we would need close personal support to be able to grow properly, and overcome the mountain of problems and pain that we had accumulated over all our years of living in a sinful world. He knew that we would need a personal teacher, helper, counselor, and mentor, to help us to learn more quickly, heal emotionally, and mature spiritually, and that we couldn't do it on our own. He gave us His Spirit to live in us and fellowship with us 24 hours a day, to help us to do all that God wanted us to do in the earth.

JN 14:26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

Up until that time before Jesus was glorified, the baptism of the Holy Spirit was not yet given to common man; it was mainly only given to prophets, priests, and kings.

JN 7:37 On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him." 39 By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.

The baptism of the Holy Spirit was made available to all mankind on the day of Pentecost, and was to be given to everyone who asked God for it with a right heart.

AC 2:1-4 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

This free gift was meant for all generations to come after Jesus time and it was not just an isolated incident that ended a long time ago.

AC 2:38 Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off--for all whom the Lord our God will call."

If you have become a Christian and want to have more power and divine assistance to serve God, learn, heal, and grow; then I would encourage you to ask God for the baptism of the Holy Spirit today. If you ask Him, and you mean business, He will fill you. It is for all people, and it doesn't matter what kind of life you have led so far. Sometimes, it can take a little while to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit, or sometimes it happens right away. Your faith will determine the length of time that it takes, because people have to overcome their doubt about whether God really wants to fill them or not, or they think they are too wicked to get filled. Rest assured, God will fill you with His Spirit, if you humble your heart and simply ask Him to. So just keep praying and don't quit. I have never seen anyone disappointed or not filled, when they are sincere.

LK 11:11-13 "Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? 13 If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!"

If you are not sure what to pray, here is a brief outline to repeat.

"Father God, I ask that you would baptize me with the baptism of your Holy Spirit as you promised us you would in the bible. Lord, I need your power to serve you in life, and I now yield my heart and spirit to you completely to receive all that you want to give me. I now repent of all sin, and ask that you would forgive me Lord, and cleanse me with the blood of Your Son Jesus. Thank you Lord for baptizing me with your Holy Spirit, in Jesus name I pray, amen".

Try to just open your heart, yield, and wait before Him. Worship can be good as long as it is not distractive to your yielding. You may begin to speak in an unknown language that might sound like gibberish at first. Tongues are usually an unknown personal heavenly prayer language, but at times the Holy Spirit has also spoken in real languages as a witness to those listening. Usually if you speak in tongues in church, there will be someone else that interprets what you said, but most of the time, you will pray or sing in the Spirit when you are alone. Do not be afraid if you feel this language welling up from inside you because it is a heavenly language that allows you to pray with your spirit, and it also allows the Holy Spirit to pray through you.

1 COR 14:14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. 15 So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my mind.

1CO 14:2 For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God. Indeed, no one understands him; he utters mysteries with his spirit.

Trust God to give you good gifts, and be eager to receive all that He offers to you. Believe me, you will need all help you can get, to get free, and stay free from deadly addictions.
