Excuses, Excuses...

2CO 6:1 As God's fellow workers we urge you not to receive God's grace in vain. 2 For he says, "In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you." I tell you, now is the time of God's favor, now is the day of salvation.

When you quit an addiction and are writhing under the gnawing waves of withdrawal you will hear a dozen or more excuses in your head as to why you should just give up and try to quit some other day. Your mind will tell you that a different quitting date would be better; it's really too stressful to quit right now; and basically tell you to just throw in the towel and try for some better opportunity another day. Try to remember that the withdrawals are doing the talking, but the withdrawals will end sooner or later.

That is just your body reacting under chemical, mental, and spiritual influences and it is just trying to make the pain stop by getting you to give it what it craves. Guess what? There is no better day, your best time to quit an addiction will always be today because tomorrow will always be just as inconvenient as today. Try to get as much support as possible and just grit it out. Even if you get to day 2 and the suffering feels like it's just too much, there will always be another day 2 to face when you quit again.

You must keep telling yourself the truth when your addiction is lying to you, like what it has been doing to ruin your life and health, and how it could ruin your afterlife. The pains of withdrawal may feel permanent at the time, but that is just another lie. Once you get beyond the tough spots you will sail into much calmer seas. Excuses are just fake reasons we give ourselves and others for doing things that we really don't need to. Enduring your withdrawals ends the excuses. God will help and comfort you.

2CO 1:3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.
