JN 17:17 Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.
There is one big lie that many of us battle with when we are struggling to overcome our addiction
and it is: "If I get rid of my addiction, then I will be less happy, and life will become more stressful without it". On the
surface we can say, if I get rid of my addiction there will be less problems, but inside that is not how we really feel. You
see, when the withdrawal symptoms start, or we feel that old chemical imbalance gnawing at us, it reinforces the psychological
need to keep it in our life. Plus life just feels scarier without being able to grab onto some kind of tangible pleasure security
when things get tough. The power of addiction is mostly in our mind, not in our body.
Now for the truth. Most of our addiction is just being driven by fear, nothing more. There really
is no legitimate need to have a bunch of chemicals surging through our body to face life. Your best state will always be your
most natural state. But for many of us when we were young our natural state was anything but peaceful. It was very scary and
very stressful. But once you get through the withdrawals for a few months and see that you really are more physically happier
without your addiction, and once you see that life can actually be faced better without your security idols, then you will
realize that all you have really been battling are lies so living in the truth sets you free.
JN 8:32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
