Seven Steps To Freedom From Porn
MT 5:27 "You have heard that it was said, `Do not commit
adultery.' 28 But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her
in his heart.
Below are seven steps to help you to get free from any form of sexual addiction or
sexual perversion. These are the actual steps that the Holy Spirit led me through in order to set me free from sexual addiction
and perversion. The main thing in your recovery is to surrender to and cooperate with God's daily work in order to set you
free. If you will just give up striving to quit you will see God heal you at the very roots of what has been driving your
need for porn.
1. Recognize it as error and sin. Be willing to see and accept anything that is beyond God's
original sexual creation design as sexual perversion and sexual abuse. God's original intent for sex was only for a husband
and wife to generate greater intimacy, have mutual physical pleasure, and to create children, nothing more. Anything beyond
this definition is true error and should be repented of. We must let go of the lie before we can fully embrace
the truth.
JAS 5:16 Therefore confess
your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.
2. Get into some form of accountability and recovery. Pray and ask God to help you to find
the right help and get started. Be willing to confess your problem to the right person so that you can drag it from
the darkness into the light. A lie can only live in the darkness and once it is exposed in the light it loses all its power
over us. I will list a link at the bottom to a free e-course called "The Way of Purity" that also gives you a mentor that
you can confess to.
RO 1:25 They exchanged the truth of God for
a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator--who is forever praised. Amen.
3. See unclothed people as God's design, not as a pleasure fix. When you look at a naked
person and see God's creation you are less likely to want to misuse or abuse it. When you learn to see things through
God's eyes of truth rather than the devil's eyes of error the lie will find no place to rest in your brain anymore. If you
see a nude person as something that your Father designed, the lust and lie have no roots to grow in anymore. See God
in His creation.
GE 4:7 If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not
do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it."
4. Meet right needs in right ways. Sexual needs are right needs, but using sexual
perversion (porn) is the wrong way to gratify this need. Be willing to live naturally and to either have sex with your
spouse, to wait for a nocturnal release, or to abstain. Nobody ever died from not having sex and you won't either.
Sexual addiction can be refused if we really want to refuse it bad enough. We must tell ourselves the truth that spiritual
sexual lawbreakers go to Hell.
PS 147:3 He heals the brokenhearted
and binds up their wounds.
5. Let God heal you at the root of the problem. Sexual perversion usually starts from lies
we have believed about things at a very early age while we were developing sexually. The Holy Spirit will take us back and
show us where we got stuck and He will mature us beyond the error like everyone else matured. Things like molestation,
abandonment, abuse, rejection of or by our parents, divorce; can all affect us profoundly and cause us to misdevelop
sexually.
ISA 55:2 Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy?
Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richest of fare.
6. Develop healthy pleasure habits to replace the unhealthy ones. Emotional needs are
there whether we use addiction or not, so denying or ignoring them them is not wise. Ask God to show you healthy, non-sinful,
spiritually legal forms of pleasure that you can turn to when you are feeling stressed, bored, or threatened. Sit
down and write down things that you enjoy doing that are non-destructive/sinful, and start doing them when you are in
need.
PS 34:8 Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who
takes refuge in him. 9 Fear the LORD, you his saints, for those who fear him lack nothing.
7. Make God your final addiction. Ask God to baptize you with His Holy Spirit, read your
bible, pray, worship, fellowship with fun and healthy people, enjoy God to the fullest. When you are afraid, lonely, angry,
or whatever; turn to God instead of destructive addiction and your life will just get better and better. Addiction always
takes more than it gives, but God always gives us what we need. God created us to need Him, so let Him be what you need.
JN 14:26 But the Counselor,
the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have
said to you.
Just remember that the Holy Spirit knows literally everything that has ever happened
to you to make you the way that you are, and He alone knows how to change you. Be willing to ask for His help daily. I
have also included some links below that can be a great resource in overcoming porn, sexual perversion, masturbation,
sexual violence, sex-chatting, adultery, you name it. Just allow Jesus Christ lead you in your recovery,
and you will be free indeed.
JN 8:34 Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, everyone
who sins is a slave to sin. 35 Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever.
36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
