Good Pleasure/Bad Pleasure

GE 3:6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.

Because of a deep belief that we are naturally defenseless without some form of external controllable pleasure to protect us in life (pleasure idol), we as addictive people tend to see all pleasure as something good to partake of. Much like Adam and Eve, we too felt that we needed something "extra" besides God in order to feel safe and complete in life, so whatever we saw that could make that possible, we grabbed it. But the problem is, that all pleasure is not healthy or good, and that's what God was trying to teach them. To choose their pleasure wisely. Life requires discipline, and without it addiction flourishes. Because of over-pleasure and destructive-pleasure, we can easily ruin our lives with addiction and destroy everything.

HEB 11:24 By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh's daughter. 25 He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a short time.

Even Moses had to make a choice between being obedient to God and His truth, or giving himself over to the pleasures of sin for a season. Life is much shorter than most of us think, and sometimes we don't have the usual 75 years here like most people. My Mom was killed by a drunk driver at 29 while she was coming home from a bar late one night and I know that she thought she had many years left to clean up her life, but she was mistaken. We're only guaranteed "right now", and any one of our hearts can stop beating at any time, especially if you do hard drugs. We have two choices, we can either do whatever we want right now and hope that we change before we die, or we can let God help us to change now, and find life.

LK 21:34 "Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with dissipation, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you unexpectedly like a trap. 35 For it will come upon all those who live on the face of the whole earth."

Jesus is talking above about a great day of turmoil that will come upon all the people of the earth, and by the signs of the times that day may be coming very soon. This will catch many people off guard, and because of great fear and anger towards God, many people will just decide to give themselves over to destructive pleasure so that they won't "feel" anything. But these people are walking into a trap and that is what God is trying to save you from right now today. Because we are all allowed free will in the earth God will let us choose what kind of pleasure we partake of, whether good or bad, but there is a price to pay in the end for our choices here, so we alone must make the personal decision to choose only what's healthy.

DT 31:6 "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you."

Trust in God, rather than addiction to protect you in life and He will show you how to live naturally courageous, rather than fearing. Fear of life robs us of our freedom and allows evil to control us, rather than God. Your body was designed to experience good pleasure so ask God to show you what's healthy and unhealthy pleasure for you. Normally if you have to hide it, or if it causes withdrawals if you don't have it, then that's bad pleasure. Good pleasure will always make your life better, not worse, so learn new habits of healthy pleasure and forsake all unhealthy pleasure habits. This is your day to live free from all fear and addiction, so pray and ask God today to replace all of the bad pleasures in your life with His very good ones.

PS 16:11 You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.
