What Lust Will Cost You

JAS 1:14 but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. 15 Then, after desire (lust) has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

I just want to teach you a truth that can help you when you are tempted to give into a lust episode (i.e. viewing porn, masturbation, sexual sin, etc.). You see, when we give into lust and gratify our desire we always think that it is just giving us something, but it will also demand something from us in the end. When we view porn, have heavy make-out sessions, or even think about certain types of evil desires, that lust will grow and require us to satisfy it in some way. Lust is always progressive and will demand some action on your part eventually, so think about what it will cost before you begin.

Like the above scripture states, when you give into lust it is like having a sin baby that will grow up and create death in your life in some form. It may be the death of your marriage, your family, your reputation, your career, your freedom, your ministry, or even your body with certain types of sexual diseases. Being obedient to God's truth and resisting the lie of lust will bring us life. When we obey lust we live under a curse, but when we obey God's laws of proper sexual function we will live under His blessing. Most of us have to learn that truth the hard way, but it is never too late to be obedient.

You may be getting something from giving into your lust, but lust will always want something back from you in return, so the best thing we can do when we are tempted by some thought, picture, or person, is to tell ourselves the truth about where that lust will lead us should we give into it. Affairs always start with someone not checking their thoughts, and before you know it they are caught up in something way over their head. Sexual rightness is having sex with your spouse plain and simple. So embrace that truth, reject the lie, discipline your thoughts, and the lust will eventually just go away.
