Trashing Our Home

1CO 3:16 Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you? 17 If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him; for God's temple is sacred, and you are that temple.

Suppose that someone built a very beautiful and intricate personalized home for us, but instead of taking proper care of it we decided to let people in who trashed it and caused it to become a very unpleasant and unsafe environment to live in. That is what happens to our bodies when we open the doors and let in various addictions. In time addiction can cause our bodies to become very degraded, damaged, or worse, dead.

1CO 6:19 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.

We tend to think of our bodies as our own, but we don't realize that our bodies are just mobile homes given to us by God meant to be temporarily used to experience life and make right choices. Picasso would most likely have been very insulted by anyone scribbling on one of his paintings, but we must understand that God is the artist that created our bodies, so when we mistreat them we also directly insult their Creator.

JN 5:14 Later Jesus found him at the temple and said to him, "See, you are well again. Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you." 15 The man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well.

Another aspect of our bodies is that some of the damage we can do to it through addiction can be very serious, and we cannot just move out into another one like in a regular home. But be encouraged today that even if you have seriously damaged your body because of addiction God can and will heal you, and He will carefully teach you how to start treating your body the right ways, and to stop treating it the wrong ways.

RO 12:1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship.

So whether you are obese, damaged your organs, lost your teeth or whatever else, gotten an STD, or just plain fried your brain and can't think straight, God can and will help you if you are willing to stop doing the things that are harming it, and start doing things to help restore it. Since He designed your body he knows exactly how it works properly and how to fix it if it gets damaged. Trust God today to help repair your body.

Here is a prayer to pray if you need it:

"God you have seen all the damage I have done to my body through addiction, and I just ask you this day Lord to forgive me for treating this wonderful gift you have given me with such great carelessness and selfishness. Please heal my body from all the damage I have done to it and help me to start treating it right from now on. Thank you for forgiving me and and helping and healing me this day. In Jesus name, amen".

MK 1:40 A man with leprosy came to him and begged him on his knees, "If you are willing, you can make me clean." 41 Filled with compassion, Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. "I am willing," he said. "Be clean!" 42 Immediately the leprosy left him and he was cured.
