Thinking A Relapse Through

RO 13:14 Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature.

When we are going through withdrawals, everything within us screams for our addiction, and whether consciously or subconsciously, we are wanting to just give in and indulge in our old addiction to relieve our suffering. The pain, discomfort, and suffering that we experience when we are trying to quit an addiction feels like it will last forever, but that just simply is not true, it does indeed pass in time if you will give it the time it needs. But we must learn to think our relapse through when we are deep in the insanity of our cravings and withdrawals.

When you are in a tough wave of withdrawals try to think your relapse through to where it will lead you if you give in. What will it cost you this time? Your freedom, your family, your health, your self respect, your dignity, your reputation, your job, your kids, your marriage, or your life? Get sick of being a slave to your addiction today, and just say no to its abuse this time when it is pleading with you to return to it. Your addiction doesn't pay the price, you do. Set a date and just get through one chunk of time at a time, and you will succeed this time.

DT 4:30 When you are in distress and all these things have happened to you, then in later days you will return to the LORD your God and obey him. 31 For the LORD your God is a merciful God; he will not abandon or destroy you or forget the covenant with your forefathers, which he confirmed to them by oath.
