The Opposite

I want you to sit down and think about your addiction and what it has really given you over the years, and be honest. Yes addiction gives you some pleasure because if it didn't at least give you something, you probably wouldn't bother doing it. I want you to also think about why you actually feel the need to do it. Most of us practice addiction because we think that it protects us from pain by giving us security through a wall of pleasure, but what is it really giving you? The opposite that's what.

Addiction gives you the illusion of pleasure but look at the mental, spiritual, social, and especially physical pain that it creates. If you have ever had to go through severe withdrawals then you know what I am talking about. Addiction seems to give you protection from pain, but look at the trouble it gets you into. Once again it gives you the opposite of what you thought. Addiction seems like it gives you more control over your life, but it tends to give everyone else control over you and it just hurts you.

No matter what your addiction is, just take a moment and try to think about what it really gives you. Many people stay in an abusive situation because they feel that they need it in some strange way, but you have to weigh the reality of what it really gives and takes from you. It is time for us to get out of our denial and to accept the fact that our addiction is not our friend after all, it is actually our worst enemy. I want to encourage you today that God will give you what you really need and He won't cheat and deceive you like addiction does.

Always try to remember that your addiction is a lie and that it will always take more than it gives and give you the opposite of what you think it does.

GAL 6:7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. 8 The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. 9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
