The Man In The Mirror

RO 2:1 You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge the other, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things.

One of the things that God does when He wants to help change us in some area is He will place someone in our path that does exactly the same unpleasant things we do, so that we can finally see just how offensive it is to be around it. It is like having a spiritual mirror placed in front of you and having God say "See, that's exactly what you do". He is not doing this to be mean though, He just knows that the only way we will finally get it, is if someone is doing the same exact things to us, that we regularly do to others. It's God's tool meant to help us.

LK 6:31 Do to others as you would have them do to you.

Many times there are ways that we behave toward others that feel right to us, but if viewed from the person on the receiving end it is actually very unpleasant to be around. We can be very critical, condemning, abusive, judgmental, and basically just "unloving" toward people and we rationalize it in so many ways and think we are just doing the right thing for people. But the truth is, that some of the ways we treat people really hurt them, and when someone treats us the way it doesn't feel very good and it motivates and convicts us to finally change.

GAL 6:7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.

Whatever we sow into people is what we will reap back, and it is really unrealistic to sow criticism into your family and expect to reap back acceptance from them. If you want people to love and be merciful to you, then sow that into them first. And there is no point in trying to get rid of the "mirror people" that God sends to show you, "you", because two more will just take their place. We must either choose pride and denial and stay stuck, or humility and honestly and be changed. This is your day to see Jesus in your mirror and no longer flesh.

1CO 13:12 Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. 13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
