The Big Secret

We all seem to think that we are the worst and most evil person when we are practicing an addiction and I want to just tell you today that everyone does pretty much the same exact terrible things when they are trapped in an addiction, they are just too ashamed to talk about it. You are not the most rotten person in the world and it is critical that you forgive yourself if you are ever going to live free from addiction. When we carry around a huge load of guilt and shame over what we've done while acting out we just doom ourselves to relapse, so forgive yourself today and move on.

You might be surprised to know that all people do pretty much the same silly and humiliating things while caught up in addiction so there is no point in beating yourself up all the time over what you have done while deep in addiction. Satan loves to tempt people to give in to addiction and then after you fall he loves to condemn you and tell you what a rotten person you are. The downward spiral of pain and self-abuse must stop somewhere so let yourself off the hook today and just understand that everyone does the same horrible things that you have done while practicing an addiction.

Here is a prayer to pray if you need it:

"God you have seen all of the terrible things that I have done while practicing my addiction and I just ask that you would forgive me, help others to forgive me, and help me to forgive myself especially this day. Help me Lord to receive your forgiveness and to stop beating myself up over all the rotten things that I have ever done in the past or the present because of addiction. Thank you Jesus for forgiving me today and for helping me to forgive myself. In Jesus name I ask and pray, amen."

1JN 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
