Mind Games
Most of the time when we quit an addiction we go through physical and mental withdrawals that really work on our
thinking and push us toward just giving in and relapsing. You may have noticed that soon after you quit an addiction that
your brain starts to automatically make excuses as to why you should just give up and try to quit some other day. This cycle
can last for many years until we just push through it.
You must remember that when you first quit an addiction you are kind of temporarily insane because you are going
through withdrawals and very chemically out of whack. So for a while you cannot trust your brain to think rationally and to
tell you the truth. It is very easy to lie to yourself when you are craving your addiction, but in time you will see that
most of what you were thinking really wasn't as valid as you thought it was.
Give yourself some good time after you quit an addiction to get your chemicals rebalanced and to break the mental
addiction due to habitual use. After a while you will be glad that you stuck it out and that you are finally free of that
thing that stole so much from you. We were never intended to be slaves to plants or habits, so allow God to help you through
your withdrawal period and trust that in time things will get better.
JN 8:34 Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. 35 Now a slave
has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
