"I'll Quit Tomorrow"

I want to talk about a cycle that can keep you running around in circles when you are trying to quit an addiction. The cycle goes something like this; You pick a quitting date and just practice your addictions until the quitting date. Then you quit, but as soon as the withdrawal symptoms get bad, or some new stress comes along, you relapse and then make a new quitting date. This cycle can go one for years until you finally reach a point where you must either decide to stay quit no matter what happens, or you will be stuck with your addiction forever.

2PE 2:20 If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning.

When you quit an addiction, and keep stopping hoping it will be easier the next time you quit, you will only reach that same place again when you try to quit again so you might as well just push through it. The "I'll quit tomorrow" plan never works and you can keep going around in circles like this forever until you finally die and then have to face God and whatever bad consequences. It truly helps to get an accountability partner when you quit, so that you can drag your problem out into the light and have someone ask you how you are doing as often as needed. God will help you to quit.

1JN 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

RO 6:11 In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. 12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires.

MK 1:15 "The time has come," he said. "The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!"
