How to take the spiritual rights away from your addiction

Because there are usually spiritual forces at work concerning your addiction as well as physical ones, you will need to deal with the spiritual side as well as the physical side when you quit an addiction. Otherwise you may get through the withdrawal phase of your recovery, only to be pressured by evil spirits go back to it again and possibly relapse. When we practice an addiction, it gains more and more power over us until we are just helpless slaves to it. God has given us ways to take back the control we have lost over our lives because of an addiction, and to take away the power and rights it has gained over us. There are several distinct things that you can do to greatly increase your chances to overcome your addiction that I will list below.

1. Starve it out

When you feed your addiction, it gains power over you and you lose power over it. When you starve the addiction, it loses power over you and you gain power over it. The longer you starve the addiction, the less power it keeps and the more it dies. When we feed the good and starve the bad, we once again take control over what is happening in our lives.

2. Heal the pain

When you allow the Holy Spirit to take you back and heal the old emotional damage from your past, it takes away the pain and the need for the pain relievers you have been using. Plus it also takes away the landing strip that the evil spirits have been landing on to torment you and push you toward addiction and self-medication.

3. Bind the spirits

When you verbally renounce (verbally refuse to practice anymore) the addiction you have been practicing, and verbally repent (verbally make the commitment to practice right) it strips the evil spirit of its rights to be in your life. Then you verbally command the evil spirit of addiction (or whatever spirit you may be dealing with, i.e. pornography, lust, nicotine, sexual perversion, overeating, self-injury, fear, drug abuse, alcoholism, idolatry, self-indulgence, etc.) to be bound and to leave you in the name of Jesus Christ. Jesus has been given all authority over all evil spirits and He also has granted His followers this same authority over evil spirits by using His name. Then lastly, you verbally apply the blood of Jesus Christ upon your body, soul, spirit, and mind and everything in your home. This will act as a spiritual wall and barrier between you and anything evil that may try to come back and harass you. I have included a prayer below to pray for yourself, or for someone else that needs this help.

"Lord God, I just renounce and repent of any and all sin that I have ever committed. Especially the sin of addiction (or whatever other problem you may be dealing with), and I ask that you would forgive me for all sin that I have ever committed in this area of my life. Now in the name of Jesus Christ I just command the evil spirit(s) of addiction (or whatever other spirit you may be dealing with) to be bound from trying to harm, hinder, harass, tempt, or influence me in any way any longer. I apply the blood of Jesus Christ afresh to my body, soul, spirit, mind, and upon my home and everything in it. I thank you God for forgiving my sins and for helping me this day. Please fill me afresh right now with your Holy Spirit God and station your holy angels around me to guard and protect me this day. In the name of Jesus Christ I ask and pray, amen".

Now, you may have to pray this same prayer over and over after every relapse, but it is just a process of retaking the land you just lost. It’s much like kicking unwanted guests out of your house, locking up all the doors and windows and inviting a powerful protector to stay in the home with you. Demons are legalists and they know their rights. Our sin is the only thing that allows evil spirits to operate in our lives and once the guilt of the sin is taken away, so is their legal right to be there. It is time to remove all the spiritual leaches from your life and to take back what you lost through addiction. God has given you the ability to take away the rights of your addiction through the power of Jesus Christ, so allow God to help you today.

Some scriptures to help you.

MT 18:18 "I tell you the truth, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.

MK 16:17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues;

2PE 3:9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
